Bursary 2024
10 September, 2024We are delighted to announce our Bursary Competition 2024.
This year, there are two categories of bursary.
- Third Level Bursary – here there are five awards of €2,000 (for a total bursary fund of €10,000).
- Primary / Secondary School Bursary – here there are twenty-five awards of €200 each (for a total fund of €5,000)
As your credit union, one thing we are really passionate about is financial literacy and wellbeing. This year, we are linking the two. In order to be considered for the bursary, we are adding a little extra fun.
First, we have just published the Aviate Credit Union Practical Guide to Managing Money – its a simple guide that explains essential concepts such as how to read a payslip, how to budget and how to set out a personal financial plan. It also includes some essential details on what a personal credit report is and how important it has become.
You will need to read the guide in detail AND then take the 10-part quiz. All of the answers to the quiz are contained within the guide. You will need to score at least 80% to be entered for consideration for the bursary (for the third level bursary applicants, there are two rounds of application, explained below).

The Third Level Bursary Competition comprises two rounds.
THIRD LEVEL COMPETITION START HERE
(Win one of 5 X €2,000)
Round 1 (Third Level) – Must score 80% of higher in the quiz. Of those scoring 80% of higher, fifty (50) will be randomly selected to write their reasons for choosing their career path and also, how they plan to include the lessons from The Aviate Credit Union Practical Guide to Managing Money in their day to day lives. Winners will be notified by phone call.

Round 2 (Third Level) – Of those completing the Third Level Quiz and scoring 80% or higher, fifty (50) will be randomly selected to advance to Round 2 of the competition. Here, applicants must complete, in essay format and less than 300 words, their reasons for choosing career choice and lessons learned from the Aviate Credit Union Practical Guide to Managing Money (submission format will be sent at a later date by email). PLUS, there will be one multiple choice question based on broad financial skills. The essay questions are are follows:
- Tell us about your third level course and why you chose this area of study.
- What have you learned from the Aviate practical guide to managing money and how will you apply the lessons to your future financial planning.
- Based on what you have learned, what are the most important things to keep in mind to ensure your credit profile remains in good standing:

Bursary 2024 terms and conditions:
- You must be an active member of the credit union and your account cannot be dormant.
- Applications will be accepted from students who are, in 2024, commencing a third level full time college or university course of at least two years duration.
- One entry only per student only is allowed.
- Payment of the Third Level bursary funds of €2,000 will be made on condition that the winning student has been accepted on an eligible college/university course and proof of acceptance will be required.
- Payment of Primary / Secondary School bursary will be paid on the condition parents of school going age are the applicants who must have an account with Aviate Credit Union. Proof required is the child’s birth certificate.
- Credit Union officers and volunteers are ineligible to enter the draw.
- The Draw will be overseen by an independent observer.
- The name of each winning student will be made public together with the college/university they are attending.
- Those awarded a bursary prize may not enter the draw in subsequent years.
- The prize of €2,000 will be lodged into the winning student’s Aviate Credit Union account.
- In entering the Bursary Draw, winning students are agreeing to participate in promotional activities such as photo shoots and videos arranged by Aviate Credit Union, and are also agreeing to their name and photo being used across our social media and press media outlets.
- The decision of Aviate Credit Union will be final on all matters relating to this draw.
- The closing date for receipt of quiz entries is 18th September 2024.
- Aviate Credit Union reserves the right to alter any of these terms and conditions at its sole discretion without prior notice.
- Any credit account with Aviate Credit Union muse be in good standing.
Closing date: Completed quiz (Third Level Round 1) and Primary Secondary School must be received no later than September 18th 2024. Round 2 for the Third Level competition will be announced separately to qualifying applicants.
